Surgical Program

Our Surgical program at Pembroke Regional Hospital consists of a multi-skilled team that coordinates all the necessary individual patient care needed throughout your surgical journey. Our Surgical program is progressive, current and adapts to the continuous changes and best practices within healthcare.

The PRH Surgical program consists of the following specialties:

  • Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic (POAC)
  • Surgical Day Care
  • Operating Room
  • Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU)
  • Surgical Inpatient Unit
  • Medical Device Reprocessing Department

We perform surgeries in the following services:

  • Orthopaedics
  • Ophthalmology
  • Dental (paediatrics)
  • General Surgery
  • Gynecological
  • Urology
  • ENT (Ears, Nose and Throat)

Your surgical journey begins with a pre-operative assessment appointment (currently being done via telephone). The appointment will be done prior to your planned surgical date (please refer to Preparing you for your Surgery section for more information pertaining to POAC). On the day of your surgery you will begin in the Surgical Day Care (SDC) where nurses will prepare you for your operation. From SDC, you will be taken to the Operating Room and then the post-anaesthetic care unit (also referred to as Recovery Room). Depending on the type of surgery, you may go home the same day or be admitted to a hospital bed on our inpatient unit.

If you are coming for an assessment for a total hip or knee replacement, you will find your information on the Champlain MSK Care site.

Privacy, safety and quality of care are our priorities. Our team is here to answer your questions.

Helping The Environment

Please note that, as part of a planetary health initiative, effective January 2, 2025, we will no longer have bags available for patient belongings. Instead, we ask that all patients coming for surgery bring one or two personal belonging bags/grocery bags to store their clothes/shoes in.
